Hubbies Favorite breakfast item. He can eat this 24x7 for all meals. I have my own twist in this one. This is such a quick and easy breakfast or lunch item. I usually double the recipe so everyone can eat it through out the day as a snack or even as lunch.
1 1/2 cup sooji (rava)
Buttermilk (yogurt diluted with water)
To prepare upma, roast rava on medium flame for 8 minutes(I buy roasted upma so I skip this step).
Soak this in the bowl of buttermilk and salt.
Meanwhile, heat oil in a large pan. Add mustard, green chillies, red chillies, curry leaves, and fry for 1 minute.
Add onions, and coconut and saute on high flame for 3-4 minutes. On a lower flame cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add soaked rava.
Stir well to combine.
Cover and cook this for 7-8 mins until rava is cooked well and all the moisture is absorbed.
Open the pan and fluff up the upma. Serve hot. Garnish with cilantro. We love to
We love to eat our upma with a nice cup of hot Indian Tea.
